Overview
Plain Jane Starter v2.0.0 is a streamlined, minimalist Shopify theme that provides the essential building blocks for an elegant e-commerce store. This version focuses on simplicity and core functionality, making it perfect for new store owners, businesses on a budget, users who prefer simplicity over complex customization options, and quick launches where time to market is critical.
What's Included
Core Features
The Plain Jane Starter theme includes all the essential features you need to run a professional online store. You get a basic store setup with homepage redirect to collections, clean collection and product pages, password protection for store launches, a responsive cart drawer, clean typography with 100+ font options, mobile-first responsive design, basic SEO settings, customer account pages, and a simple footer and navigation system.
Available Pages and Templates
The theme provides several core page templates:
Collection Page displays your products in a clean grid layout with sorting options (Featured, Lowest Priced, Newest First, A-Z Order) and filtering capabilities.
Product Page showcases individual products with image galleries, variant selection, SKU display, pricing, and descriptions, plus a related products section at the bottom.
Contact Page includes a contact form, customizable message area, and timezone display to show your local time.
Password Page allows you to lock your store before launch and collect email signups from interested visitors.
Customer Account Pages provide login, registration, account dashboard, order history, and address management functionality.
Default Pages can be used for About, FAQ, or any custom content pages you want to create.
Search Page displays search results when customers search for products.
Cart Page shows the full shopping cart (used when cart drawer is disabled).
Available Sections
The theme includes these sections that can be added to pages:
Embedded Email Signup allows you to add an email collection form to any page.
Custom Liquid lets you add custom code for advanced customizations.
Page Text provides a simple text content block for pages.
Social Media Links displays icons linking to your social media profiles.
Theme Settings
You have control over several key theme settings:
Cart Drawer can be customized with background colors, text colors, button styling, drawer width (300-320px), currency display options, and optional background images.
Clock Settings let you configure timezone display across your store.
Collection Layout controls products per page, product card text alignment, and vendor display options.
Default Page Settings configure default backgrounds and layouts for standard pages.
Home Page Settings control where visitors are redirected (default is /collections/all) since there is no traditional homepage.
Footer Settings manage background and text colors, email signup forms, social media icons, and payment method icons.
Global Menu Settings control menu alignment, colors, and search icon visibility.
Logo Settings allow you to upload and position your brand logo.
Main Theme Color sets the primary accent color used throughout the theme.
Typography Settings provide access to 100+ fonts for headings and body text.
SEO Settings help you manage meta descriptions, social sharing images, and favicons.
Misc. Settings provide additional fine-tuning options.
What's NOT Included
Plain Jane Starter is intentionally simplified to provide a focused, essential experience. For advanced features, consider upgrading to Plain Jane 3.0 or Plain Jane Interactive.
The following features are not available in the Starter version: multiple homepage menu templates (Center Menu, Side-Aligned Menu), advanced sections (Hero, Marquee, Image Stream, Video Spotlight, Blog Feed, Product Carousel, Collection Display, FAQ, Preloader, Announcement Bar), lookbook pages and archives, blog and article pages, password page countdown timer, music player, custom cursor options, hover animations, video and slideshow backgrounds, 3D model support, and image selector sections.
