Plain Jane Starter includes essential theme customization options to establish your brand identity while keeping things simple and manageable.
Available Settings Categories
The following theme settings are available in Plain Jane Starter. To access them, go to Online Store > Themes > Customize > Theme settings (gear icon).
Configure the slide-out shopping cart panel. Customize background colors, text colors, button styling, drawer width, currency display, and optional background images.
Configure timezone display for consistent time references across your store. Choose from a comprehensive list of global timezones.
Control how products display on collection pages. Set products per page, text alignment, and vendor display options.
Complete footer customization for navigation and branding. Configure colors, email signup forms, social media icons, and payment method icons.
Control the appearance and behavior of your main navigation menu. Adjust alignment, colors, and search icon visibility.
Upload your brand logo and configure its display. Set logo size and positioning within the header.
Set the primary color used throughout your theme for buttons, links, and other accent elements.
Choose from over 100 Google Fonts for your store's typography. Set separate fonts for headings and body text, and adjust sizes and weights.
Essential search engine optimization tools. Configure meta descriptions, social sharing images, and favicon uploads.
What's NOT Included in Starter
Plain Jane Starter intentionally excludes complex settings to maintain simplicity. The following settings are not available:

❌ Music Player - Audio integration
❌ Announcement Bar - Scrolling promotional messaging
❌ Skip Home Screen - Advanced navigation controls
❌ Multi-language - Locale management

Settings Access
To access theme settings:
Shopify Admin → Online Store → Themes
Click "Customize" on Plain Jane Starter
Click the gear icon in the left sidebar to open Theme settings
Configuration Workflow
Step 1: Foundation (15 minutes)
Start with the essential visual elements that define your brand:
Upload your Logo
Set your Main Theme Color
Configure Typography (fonts for headings and body text)
Step 2: Layout and Functionality (10 minutes)
Configure how your store operates:
Set up Collection Layout (products per page, alignment)
Customize Cart Drawer (colors, width, behavior)
Configure Global Menu Settings (alignment, colors)
Step 3: Footer and SEO (10 minutes)
Complete your store setup:
Set up Footer Settings (colors, email signup, social links)
Configure SEO Settings (meta descriptions, favicon, social images)
Set Clock Settings (timezone for your business)
Total configuration time: 30-45 minutes
Best Practices
Before You Start
Prepare your brand assets before beginning configuration. Have your logo files ready (PNG with transparency recommended). Know your brand color palette (hex codes). Choose your preferred fonts (or have examples ready). Prepare your favicon (32x32 pixels).
Configuration Tips
Start with Typography, as this affects the overall feel of your store. Test your color choices for sufficient contrast and readability. Use Preview mode to test changes before publishing. Keep your design simple and consistent. Always test on mobile devices.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Using too many different fonts (stick to 1-2 font families). Poor color contrast between text and backgrounds. Ignoring mobile optimization. Overcomplicating the design. Not testing the cart drawer functionality. Forgetting to set up SEO settings before launch.
